Mesh Clothing

Good morning everybody!

Steph Catseye has provided her customers with information on mesh products that I would like to pass along to everyone as it pertains to all mesh products in Second Life. The following is taken directly from Steph's notecards.

Q: Why there are parts of my body come through the mesh even when I wear the alpha layer
A: Since rigged Mesh cannot be re-sized at all, designers in Second Life have agreed on 5 standard sizes, this will fit the most avatars in Second Life. If parts of your body show through the mesh and you cannot make any of the sizes fit your shape you need to create an alternative shape for mesh and make it fit. (sounds crazy but is what everyone is doing until Linden Labs allows us to deform mesh)

Q: The Alpha layer is not correctly aligned with the dress/pants/outfit
A: The Alpha layer is always 100% aligned with the dress/pants/outfit.. corresponding with the 5 standard sizes. 1000 customers have 1000 different shapes, there is no perfect alpha layer that makes everyone happy (unfortunately) for that matter you have to bring your shape into the threshold's of the standard sizes. Shapes are based on stretching and deforming the standard SL Avatar, this avatar models was created over 10 years ago and is very poor quality. For that matter the alpha layer is deforming along with the shape, bottom line this means that not the alpha layer is causing the problem it is the shape.

Q: My Breast come out of the mesh (how do i fix it?)
A: Most of the times when I assist customers it is not the breast size that causes problems, it is the breast gravity

Q: Why do some of your outfits fit me fine and others not?
A. This depends on the cut of the dress. In example a dress with closed collars, no cleavage and long arms will always fit you because the entire upper body can be made invisible. An outfit with cut outs and strings or straps is likely to cause more problems if your shape is not adjusted for the standard sizes because more precision is required.

 ALPHA LAYER ALIGNMENTS
The biggest problem customers encounter are alpha layer problems. Most of the times the customer believes the alpha layer isn't aligned correctly with the outfit. This is not the case with DeVicious. All Mesh purchased from DeVicious is 100% compatible with the 5 standard sizes and would not be released unless it is a perfect fit. While many mesh outfits will fit anyone just like that, others with more elaborate cuts have particular requirements to your shape. When you go shopping in real life and you are a size M you will not fit into a size S dress. It is the same in Second Life.

YOUR SHAPE
Experienced Mesh Customers have one or two mesh shapes in addition to their regular shape. Anyone including myself will hate this idea at first but it is a necessary step in order to use mesh. Don't forget that MESH is adding volume to your shape, this means if you don't reduce your shape in particular places you look bigger as before. Adjusting your shape contributes to the idea that you keep your old look. Anyone who has done this didn't like the concept of it and today they cannot even tell the difference between their shapes. It is a problem that is mostly in our heads and as long we cannot deform and adjust mesh ourselves we need to accept the limitations because as a designer I am not able to create the perfect fit for anyone. 1000 customers have 1000 different shapes.... that's why we use the standard sizes so anyone can adjust to them.

TEXTURES ARE BLURRY ON MESH ITEMS?
I have experienced this problem hundreds of times, now I am happy to be able to provide a solution that will fix it.

CHECKLIST:
Are your hardware drivers up to date? When was your last Windows Update / OS Update? Is there a service pack available? How recent is your graphic card driver? Bring everything up to date. AMD users on XP or Vista will find this page very interesting http://www.hardwareheaven.com/modtool.php
(follow the instructions... it's a workaround that works)

Here is a list of random tips from our customers, the internet and the developers. Please try each suggestion on it's own, do tweak your settings all at once.

1) Change the debug setting MeshMaxConcurrentRequests to a higher number, 100 for example. (Ctrl-Alt-D to show the Advanced menu, then go to Debug Settings)

2) Turn on Hardware Skinning in Graphics and you can see the rigged mesh (preferences /graphics/hardware settings)

3) Enable Basic Shaders (preferences /graphics)

4) Reduce other settings such as Anti Aliasing (let your hardware handle it in your graphic card settings)
The usual problem is that people try to turn up their Second Life graphics while they should turn them down just a little.

MESH RUMORS and FALSE PERCEPTIONS:

In order to clean up some rumors that were falsely spread in order to establish an anti mesh movement, here are some basic information you should know before we continue fixing your mesh problem.

# Mesh is easier on the hardware than regular prims (fewer triangles but better quality of shape and texture) Mesh is easier.

# Mesh is way easier on the hardware than sculptie and mesh loads way faster as sculptie..

# Mesh causes a lag? No it doesn't... It loads faster than a regular prims because a prim has 6 textures on all 6 sides and even when it is the same texture it takes the memory.

#Mesh uses one texture only for that matter it contributes almost 4 times less to a lag than a prim.

#The rumor that your hardware is too old, or that it will slow down your computer or even smoke up older graphic cards is a myth.

Thank you Steph!
